How to Find a Tradesperson
SpainTrades makes it straightforward to find expat-friendly, vetted tradespeople in the Málaga region. This guide explains how the search works and what to look for when choosing someone for your job.
Searching Without an Account
You don't need to create an account to browse tradespeople on SpainTrades. Visit spaintrades.es and click Find a Tradesperson. You can search, browse profiles, and read reviews without registering.
You will need to create a free customer account when you're ready to send a quote request or message a tradesperson directly.
Using the Search Filters
The search page lets you filter results by:
- Trade category — choose from 25 categories including plumber, electrician, painter, gardener, swimming pool, solar, and more
- Location — search by town or area within the Málaga region
- English level — filter by Basic, Conversational, Fluent, or Native
- Verified only — show only tradespeople with a verified identity or trade document
You can also search by keyword if you have a specific job type in mind — for example "underfloor heating" or "pool pump repair".
How Search Results Are Ranked
Results are ranked by a combination of the tradesperson's subscription plan, their response rate, their review score, and how complete their profile is. Premium and Professional listings generally appear higher than Basic. Verified tradespeople with strong reviews and a high response rate appear nearest the top.
Reading a Profile Card
Each search result shows a profile card with the tradesperson's business name and logo, the trades they cover, their star rating and review count, their Verified status, English level, and areas served. Click any card to open the full profile, where you'll find their portfolio, full description, contact options, and all their reviews.
What to Check Before Choosing
Before sending a quote request, take a few minutes to review:
- Reviews — read the detail, not just the star average. Look for comments on punctuality, communication, and whether the final price matched the original quote
- Portfolio photos — look for evidence of completed work similar to your job
- Response rate — if shown, a high response rate means they are actively monitoring their inbox
- Verified badge — means SpainTrades has checked at least one identity or trade document
For larger or more expensive jobs, it is always worth sending quote requests to two or three tradespeople for comparison before committing.
Is It Free for Customers?
Yes — SpainTrades is completely free for customers. There is no charge to search, browse profiles, send quote requests, or message tradespeople. The platform is funded by tradesperson subscriptions.
