Understanding Verification and Trust

When you're looking for a tradesperson in Spain, trust is everything. This guide explains what the SpainTrades Verified badge actually means, how the review system works, and how to read a profile with confidence.

What the Verified Badge Means

A tradesperson with the Verified badge has submitted at least one identity or trade document β€” such as their CIF/NIF business registration, a trade qualification certificate, or a current public liability insurance certificate β€” and that document has been reviewed and approved by the SpainTrades admin team.

Verification confirms that the tradesperson exists as a registered business entity and that their documents are current and match their trading name. It is a meaningful layer of accountability that a simple Google search cannot provide.

What SpainTrades Does NOT Guarantee

The Verified badge is not an endorsement of work quality, pricing, or customer service. SpainTrades does not inspect completed jobs, mediate financial disputes, or guarantee outcomes. We are a directory platform β€” we verify identity and provide tools for customers to leave honest reviews, but the responsibility for agreeing a scope of work, price, and contract lies between you and the tradesperson.

Always get a written quote before work begins. A reputable tradesperson will always provide one willingly.

English Level Ratings

Each tradesperson profile shows an English level β€” Basic, Conversational, Fluent, or Native. These are self-reported by the tradesperson and are intended as a guide. We use the term "expat-friendly" rather than "English-speaking" because what matters most is whether a tradesperson is comfortable and experienced working with international customers β€” not simply whether they speak fluent English.

A tradesperson rated Conversational may communicate perfectly well for a plumbing job via messages and photos, even if they wouldn't be comfortable with a long technical phone call. Use the English level rating as a guide, not a hard requirement.

The Review System

Customer reviews on SpainTrades are submitted by real customers who have used the platform to contact a tradesperson. Reviews are moderated by our admin team before they appear publicly β€” we check that they are genuine and comply with our review guidelines. We do not remove negative reviews unless they breach our terms (for example, containing personal abuse or false statements of fact).

Tradespeople can respond to reviews publicly. A thoughtful response to a critical review is often more reassuring to a prospective customer than a perfect score with no history at all.

How to Read a Profile with Confidence

When choosing a tradesperson, look for a combination of signals:

  • A Verified badge β€” their identity and registration has been checked
  • Multiple genuine reviews β€” especially comments on communication, punctuality, and price consistency
  • A high response rate β€” they are actively managing their inbox and taking enquiries seriously
  • Portfolio photos β€” real evidence of completed work in your trade
  • A complete, well-written profile β€” a tradesperson who has invested time in their presentation is generally more professional in their work

No platform can guarantee a perfect outcome every time. But SpainTrades gives you significantly more information than a word-of-mouth recommendation alone β€” use all of it.
